Immigration 101 - Presented by the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center

  • Howell Carnegie District Library (Meabon Room) 314 West Grand River Avenue Howell, MI, 48843 United States (map)

Bring your lunch and join us for this free informational session provided by the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC) featuring Supervising Attorney, Polina Hristova.

Why this program and why in Livingston County?
Shortly before our Livingston County Commissioners passed the resolution to require the Livingston County Sheriff's office to track and report contacts with undocumented immigrants on September 23rd, the Livingston Diversity Council began working with the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC) to craft and share information about why this resolution makes our community less safe for everyone. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts the resolution was passed unanimously.

Description of the program: An overview of the U.S. immigration system and how immigration status affects other legal rights. Topics include civil rights, detention and removal, and access to public benefits.

Following the program, there will also be time for Q&A with MIRC presenters to address concerns about how our community and its residents could be impacted by the resolution.

While registration is not required, we ask that you indicate your plan to attend so that we can adequately prepare for the number of attendees
